24-hour blood pressure monitoring

Automatic blood pressure readings over 24 hours - including at night - show how your blood pressure really behaves in everyday life.

Blood pressure measurement with an upper-arm cuff

Reliable values instead of a snapshot

Blood pressure is often higher at the doctor's than at home - or the other way round. 24-hour monitoring records your values at regular intervals, day and night, giving a realistic picture.

Night-time readings are especially informative: if your blood pressure does not fall enough during sleep, this may indicate an increased cardiovascular risk.

When is 24-hour blood pressure monitoring useful?

  • Suspected high blood pressure
  • Strongly fluctuating readings
  • Checking blood pressure treatment
  • Symptoms such as headaches or dizziness
  • Different readings at the practice and at home

In case of acute chest pain, shortness of breath or loss of consciousness, call the emergency number 112 immediately.

How the monitoring works

  • 01
FittingA cuff is placed on your upper arm and connected to a small monitor.
  • 02
ReadingsDuring the day, the device measures about every 15 to 30 minutes, less often at night.
  • 03
Daily routine and diaryYou note down things like when you take medication, when you sleep or any symptoms.
  • 04
EvaluationAfter 24 hours you return the device. The readings are evaluated and discussed with you.

How to prepare

  • Wear a top with loose sleeves
  • Keep your arm still and relaxed during each reading
  • Take your medication as usual
  • You cannot shower or bathe while wearing the device
  • Choose a day that is as typical as possible
